Mile
of Survival®
The Mile of
Survival® is a concept developed by the Wall of Hope Breast
Cancer Survivors’ Project®, whereby all communities
across the United States will join in and contribute portraits
of breast cancer survivors, with an average of 750 per state.
When added together, with the California Wall of Hope, this will
form a mile-long exhibit of breast cancer survivors. We intend
to mount this exhibit in Washington, D. C. When we do, we will
get the attention of the public and lawmakers alike. We will let
this country’s 10 million cancer survivors, their families,
friends and concerned community, know that we can’t wait
any longer to take action—to begin to either remove the
toxins from our environment, or substitute them for something
safe. After the Mile of Survival is shown in Washington, D. C.,
each state will be invited to take their own 100-foot Walls back
to their state and continue to show it, and teach people about
cancer and the environment.
How
You Can Participate
You can become
an Event Coordinator for one of our “Community Photo Gathering
Events” and help us collect portraits from your own community
in this fun, meaningful event where you help breast cancer survivors
feel like queen (or king) for a day! Hundreds of these events
will occur in cities all over the United States, and you can be
instrumental in making sure your town is represented on the memorable
Mile of Survival exhibit! You can also volunteer, subscribe
to our newsletter, The Green Breast Cancer
Letter, or send in a donation. If you know a survivor in
another state who would like to be on the Mile of Survival, refer
them to the Project. Also, if you know someone who is either willing
to hold a “Community Photo Gathering Event”, or do
photography, hair or make-up, please refer them to the Project.
